About Cuzco :

Cusco PeruPart of the 23,000 kilometers (approximately 14,000 miles) of roads built by the Incas in South America, this is Peru's most famous trekking route and possibly one of the most spectacular in the Americas.

Every year; some 25,000 hikers from around the world walk along the extraordinary 43 kilometers of this stone-paved road built by the Incas leading to the unassailable citadel of Machu Picchu located in the depth of the Cusco jungle. The Inca Trail journey starts in the village of Qorihuayrachina, at kilometer 88 of the Cuzco - Quillabamba railway and takes three or four days of strenuous walking.

The route includes an impressive variety of altitudes, climates and ecosystems that range from the high Andean plain to the cloud forest. Travelers will cross two high altitude passes (the highest being Warmiwañuska at 4,200 m.a.s.l.) to culminate the hike with a magical entrance to Machu Picchu through the Inti Punko or Gateway of the Sun.

One of the main attractions along the route is the web of ancient settlements built in granite rock by the Incas like Wiñay Wayna and Phuyupatamarca immersed in an overpowering natural scenery. Hundreds of species of orchids, multicolored birds and dreamlike landscapes provide the ideal backstage for a route that every hiker should walk at least once

 

Inti Raymi :

Inti Raymi - PeruThe Sun, the main god of the Inca Civilization was considered like the creator of all that existed. He presided over the destiny of human beings and of the Universe.
The Inti Raymi, the most luxurious feast, was devoted to the Sun. In order for it not to abandon the earth and it's children and maintain it's orbit offering people warmth and happiness. They should offer sacrifices and adore It.
The Inti Raymi was born this way, the feast of the Sun. From the Korikancha until the Haucaypata, each winter solstice. Cusco vibrated in the sacred. The Inca and his court got ready in purity and fasting to surrender homage to his father, the Sun. The Inca sovereign of the Tahuantisuyo presided over the central party sacrificing the llama.
Willaq Uma, after opening the body of the animal he saw in the viscera and bowel the announcement of future events. Soon after, he concentrated the sunbeams, whose sacred fire should be kept by the Virgins of the Sun until next year.
Thousands of worshippers coming from the "Cuatro Suyos" or four regions, whit fervor and rejoicing accompanied the services and offerings to their god with dances and songs; and the Inca princesses offered the sacred bread (sankhu), the chicha whit which the Inca began the toast to the Sun; imploring, prosperity, solidarity wisdom as well as the best crops for his people.
