IQT 01 : Explorama Lodge Basic Program ( 03 DAYS / 02 NIGHTS )

Day 01 : Iquitos - Explorama Lodge

Iquitos - Peru Reception at the airport, brief city orientation, and transfer to the Explorama dock. Fifty mile journey down the Amazon River to Yanamono Stream where Explorama Lodge is located. Afternoon hike along the "Lake Trail" through lowland rainforest that is seasonally flooded. During the high water season, this excursion is done by open boat. Night walk or open boat ride to enjoy the sounds of the rainforest and stars of the Southern sky. (L,D) / Overnight Explorama Lodge.


Day 02 : Explorama Lodge

Morning walk along the "Bushmaster Trail" where scientific studies by the Missouri Botanical Gardens have found the world's highest biodiversity of trees per square hectare. Your guide will point out many plants used in medicine today and many that we may use in the future. Afternoon open boat trip along the Amazon in search of either of the two species of freshwater dolphins found in the river and a chance for an afternoon swim. (B,L,D) / Overnight Explorama Lodge.


Day 03 : Explorama Lodge - Iquitos

Morning walk along a local river trail with stops along the way to visit the "ribereños" or river people, visit a river school, see the local sugar cane rum "factory" or visit our resident American medical doctor at her clinic sponsored by the Rotary Club. Transfer back to Iquitos for your departure flight to Lima. (B,L)

IQT 02 : Ceiba Tops Itinerary ( 03 DAYS / 02 NIGHTS )

Day 01 : Iquitos - Ceiba Tops

Reception at the airport, brief city orientation and transfer to the Explorama dock. Twenty-five mile journey down the Amazon River to Ceiba Tops, where rooms with air conditioning and private bathrooms provide the comforts of home in the rainforest. Afternoon hike in the beautiful primary rainforest reserve surrounding the lodge which includes many huge trees festooned with epiphytes. After dinner there may be local flute or guitar music at the El Toucan Bar, or you may join the guides who are always ready to narrate some of the many legends of the Amazon forest. Day 02 : Ceiba Tops

Morning boat ride, spotting for dolphins, visit to small village of Yagua Indians where your guide will explain the local Yagua Indian culture and how it was affected by the arrival of Europeans and the passing of time. There will also be an opportunity to see some of the local handicrafts and a demonstration of the blowgun that some of the Yagua elders still use for hunting. Afternoon walk excursion to the neighboring town of Indiana. Originally a Franciscan mission, Indiana has grown into a large river community with its own market, high school and small hospital. Day 03 : Ceiba Tops - Iquitos

You can choose between a morning walk or an excursion by boat to further enjoy the rainforest and Amazon River. Afternoon, transfer to Iquitos and to the airport. (B,L)

IQT 04 : Crucero IQT ( 05 DAYS / 04 NIGHTS )

Iquitos - Yurimaguas
Travel the Amazon, Maranon and Huallaga rivers with stops in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.

Day 01 : Sunday

Depart up river from Iquitos. Shore excursion to visit a small river town on the Amazon and see how the local people live in harmony with the rain forest. Dinner on board. Continue up river at night. Pass the juncture of the Ucayali and Maranon rivers – this is the true beginning of the Amazon River – entering the Marañon river

Day 02 : Monday

Early morning bird watching on the upper deck. Coffee and tea available. Full breakfast on board. Visit to the first area of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Sail into the beautiful black-water Lake San Martin and visit a local community and trade for handicrafts. In small boats go further into the Reserve to see birds and Amazon wildlife in this quiet, protected area.

Sail on up river overnight. Star gazing from the upper deck.

Day 03 : Tuesday

Early morning bird watching excursion. Breakfast on board. Excursion by small boat into the protected reserve for observation of wildlife. Lunch on board as you continue up river. Afternoon excursion to explore the jungle on foot with your guide. Dinner on board. Night excursion to hear the many sounds of the jungle.

Day 04 : Wednesday

Leaving the Maranon River and entering the smaller, swifter Huallaga River. Breakfast on board. Shore excursion and again into the forest of this huge protected area. Your guide will point out and explain about the unique and interesting plants, trees and vines. Lunch on board. Now the river is more narrow and shallow. Afternoon excursion to a small lake to see varieties of birds, monkeys and sloths. Last night on board. Local music.

Day 05 : Thursday

Early morning arrival at the port of Yurimaguas. This area is connected by road to the Andean area of Peru, the coast and the rest of the country. Passengers may stay and visit this remote port then go by car for a 4 or 5 hour trip to Tarapoto, located in a cooler, low Andean valley. In Tarapoto, stay at a modern hotel with swimming pool, etc. Fly to Lima or start a new journey across Northern Peru and the Andes on paved roads through seldom visited pre-Inca ruins and great mountain views. Return to Lima from the coastal town of Chiclayo. (Ask for our special 5 nights Northern Peru Program.)

IQT 05 : Crucero IQT ( 06 DAYS / 05 NIGHTS )

Iquitos - Ucayali - Iquitos

Day 01 : Sunday

Departure from Iquitos by bus. One and a half hour if the road is in good condition. Board the ship in Nauta. Later we will pass the merge of two rivers; Maranon and Ucayali. Both rivers form the Amazon River. Lunch on board. We will travel toward Requena and have a brief city tour of this town. Dinner on board. If the weather permits we will see a sky crowded of stars. Later we will have our first night excursion looking for caimans and animal sounds.

Day 02 : Monday

Early in the morning, before breakfast, we will have an excursion into the jungle. We will have a trekking into The Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. This protected area has 13 species of monkeys, 2 species of sloth, 449 species of birds and other wildlife. Lunch on board awhile we are sailing down river. Dinner on board. We will spend a funny night with our new friends with some music.

Day 03 : Tuesday

Early morning bird watch excursion. Breakfast on board. Later we will have an excursion for piranha fishing program. Lunch on board. We will have an excursion toward a seldom visited lagoon Cocha Puga, where we will have a walk to explore this area and watch wildlife. Dinner on board. Later we will have a nocturnal excursion to observe the caiman and alligators.

Day 04 : Wednesday

Early morning we will have breakfast. Later we will have a long walk to observe parrots, macaws, monkeys, sloths, etc. This is an excellent zone for animal observation. Lunch on board. After that we will have a boat expedition to look for the pink and grey dolphins. Returning to the ship we will have dinner. Nocturnal expedition to listen to the sound of some animals of the night.

Day 05 : Thursday

From the Ucayali we will sail into the Tapiche River. Breakfast on board. Excursion by boat on a black water lake where we will have some fishing. Returning to the ship lunch is ready. Walk around Tapiche River. Dinner on board. We will have our last excursion to look for caimans and alligators.

Day 06 : Friday

Breakfast on board. Bird watching excursion and visit to the viewing tower of Nauta; passengers will be able to take beautiful pictures of the landscapes. Lunch on board. Passengers will leave the ship in Nauta to be transferred to Iquitos city.
